In addition to ranking as the top fundraiser for2011, Daniel Becka committed to serve the YMBL Leadership Program for a full semester prior to his Board commitment.  As 2012 Leadership Chair, Daniel works closely with the YMBL Programs Committee, Austin Sunshine Camps staff and the students that comprise the program.  On a weekly basis he dedicates his time to build the program, working to ensure that the kids have the necessary skillset to acheive in highschool and beyond.

What do you do professionally?
I'm a political consultant for the horse racing industry in Texas. I work for Texans for Economic Development.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I spend as much time with my family and friends as possible. They are what keeps me motivated throughout each day.

What drew you to the YMBL?
My friend Sam, mostly. I didn't know much of what the YMBL was about and what it could offer me, but took his advice to join up just the same.

What advice do you have for new or prospective members?
The YMBL of Austin has become one of the most powerful positive influences in my life. I have an outlet to give back to our community through volunteering with the Sunshine Camps and I have the daily opportunity to be part of a group where there's plenty of fun to behad while building solid relationships with some of the most outstanding guys in Austin.

I've learned that the YMBL becomes what you make of it. It has something for everyone, but it's the type of organization that requires making choices to involve yourself. If you're a new member, or thinking about joining the YMBL my advice is to explore all of the different aspects of the organization and then challenge yourself to engage in those things that interest you. If you do, I think you'll find just what you're looking for.

Words to live by?
Every once in a while stop and take a deep breath. For just a moment soak in what's going on with the world around you. Perspective is everything.
